Brad Cates is a nationally recognized expert in Money Laundering, Asset Forfeiture, and Financial Compliance law.
He is a member of the Bar in New Mexico, Texas, and Washington D.C.

In addition to his law practice, he is a blockchain development entrepreneur in eastern Europe, and a New Mexico pecan farm owner. He is a frequent lecturer and writer advocating major reform of the growing body of law and regulatory enforcement which he feels violates basic rights guaranteed in the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. These include self incrimination, reversing the burden of proof, and intrusive violations of privacy without a warrant. He is the author of New Mexico's unanimously passed 2015 law abolishing civil asset forfeiture.

In New Mexico, he served as a four term state legislator, senior Assistant Attorney General, and Assistant District Attorney. Additionally, he was a federal prosecutor in the Northern District of Texas, head of the DOJ Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Office in Washington, Enforcement Counsel to the head of the INS, and Director of Hearings and Appeals at the Interior Department.

Brad was a founding member of the Federalist Society.

He has two sons, one a college junior, and the other a recent business college graduate of the NMSU ROTC program and now serving as an Air Force Officer.
