Justin Amash served in the U.S. House of Representatives from January 2011 to January 2021. After joining the Libertarian Party in early 2020, he became the highest-ranking Libertarian Party officeholder in the country. As an elected official, Rep. Amash was a leading advocate of government restraint and a champion of civil liberties, having led opposition to warrantless surveillance, indefinite detention, civil asset forfeiture, qualified immunity, and other government policies and practices that violate our constitutionally secured rights. In early 2024, Amash announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in Michigan.
